Ryan, you shouldn't be paying for anyone's mistakes. In this case it sounds like you got walked over. The problem is that people rarely ask for a written quote, without that its a matter of arguing your point with the shop owner.

I know a bloke that works there, (he's actually a member of the forum) so I'll ask him what the story was. Those guys are Suzuki specialists, they shouldn't make rookie mistakes, and they shouldn't charge you for them!

yeah i think i may have been walked over. maybe they were trying to make a little more off me because i am young and shouldnt know any better.i totally agree they are the experts and they seem like pretty good blokes but maybe they saw an opportunity.

anyway i paid 500 yesterday and still have the rest (86) to pay when i transfer money to my card. one part of me wants to just cop it on the chin and pay the rest so that i can return for their good parts range and anoher part of me wants to say stuff them.

i just couldnt understand why in a written quote they said it would take 3 hours and it turned out taking 5 (especially at 80 bucks an hour :-o ).

There are two points here:

1) If the job was going to cost more than they originally quoted then you should have been called to verify you would accept the charges before they started the extra work.

2) If the extra costs were incurred because of their mistakes, (and not something incidental) then you should not be charged the extra amount.

By incidental, say a mechanic is replacing the brake rotors and one of the wheel studs shear off in the process. That's your cost to pay. But if they were doing the same job and dropped one of the hubs and cracked the housing, then that's their problem to fix, at their expense.

I just noticed you said you had a written quote. If you were given this before the commencement of work and you didn't ask for anything extra then that is all you are required to pay.
