Im fairly new around mighty boys and i was wondering how much it would cost for a 800 or 1000 engine - im looking at buying a car with a near dead engine
Also, what would be the best value for money conversion around?

Best value swap is definately the F8B. Buy a old Hatch and just swap the motor, gearbox and radiator over.

how about a 1000cc?
i heard they only just fit in so do they need cutting and modifying the engine bay?
if so, how hard and how much would it be to do that.

The G10A (and associated 5 speed box) require the fabrication of custom engine mounts, driveshafts, and rewiring.
Depends on how far you'd go for an extra 9kw over the F8B. The only ute I've heard of with the G10A conversion goes through more engine mounts than most people would go through underwear, but that may be put down to a dodgy install, I'm not sure.

Do you really need the gearbox from a hatch or is it just easier?
I mean, is the standard mightyboy gearbox not tough enough to handle all those extra Kw or is the hatch box just recommended?
If i were to buy a F8B, would i need to do any (or much) re-wiring or electrical work?
Also, how much do you think a half cut would set me back to get the engine, gearbox, etc?
I have done a engine transplant on a 6 clyinder toyota landcruiser so a suzuki 3 cylinder wouldn't be a real problem...(the toyota had aircon, power steer and everything else u can think of to get in the way.)
Thanks for all your help so far guys.

Assuming you're swapping manual to manual then the F8B is plug and play. All the wiring is identical to the F5A, except for the speedo cable depending on what box you happen to get.
The F8B box is not a necessity, but highly recommended due to the taller final drive ratio for better cruising. If you use an F5A box then 1st gear becomes almost useless because you're at redline by 20kph.

So the standard box is a no-go...
I have been looking around for a front or a half cut of a hatch from somewhere but through all my net surfing i have come up empty.
Do u have any websites to piont me in the right direction?
While im typing, i have seen heaps of MB's without the chrome bar work that goes from the roof down the back window, does the removal of this make the car handle better or what? can u please fill me in.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Removing the chrome bars makes absolutely no difference to the vehicle's performance. It is simply a matter of personal taste whether you want them on or not.
I cut mine off so only the two rails down each side of the tray remain for roping down loads, but the rest are gone. Just be advised that if you remove them that you'll have bolt holes left where they come off - I had those holes welded over during my respray.
As for the Hatch motor, you're barking up the wrong tree looking for a front cut. For starters they are a domestic vehicle so there is no reason for a front cut to exist in Australia. If you're looking for a motor you need to look for either a wrecked or driveable Hatch.
Bear in mind that you really only need the complete motor and box plus the speedo cable in order to do the swap.
