I think the muffler on my boy is starting to get too old, the thing is very loud for a little 3 banger @ 100 or above.
mowog -> I have never heard of extractors reducing performance. Maybe loose a little low down torque, but overall performance?

Extractors

It wasn't 6 years man.....
Anyway, i was commenting on the "note quite true" statement to the post i made about extractors increasing performance being what I've been taught.
Yeah, they may make a little less power down low, but overall they are better than a stock system. Everything is a compromise with a car, especially engine performance, it's always a compromise between power and drive-ability. To get more top end, you usually compromise the bottom end, ie off idle power.
Are extractors worth it on a stock F5a mighty boy? Probably not. If that said F5a has head work & a cam, maybe a carby change as well, yes they will be worth it, as the engine will make use of the extra flow ability. Even a F8b with some work would be a good candidate for extractors if you didn't want to go down the turbo route.
I don't have a modified cam in my F8b yet, but i do have the head ported as large as it can go, and I'm sure extractors would make a good difference to my engine, but i want to go the turbo route. It might loose a little power off idle, but let's face it, we rev these little engines to make our little car's move, don't we?
Cheers

lol, i was wondering where you got that from. It's all good!mowog wrote:was having a blond moment and looked at the date I joined, not date of post!!!
I wonder if it would be possible to modify a LJ50 crank and pistons to fit in the F5 or F8 block, this would give roller bearings and a really high revving motor.
The Lj50 crank - good question. Time for a new thread for that question i think!
