WTB.. Engine for the Mighty Toy.

So I got a quote today.. with the engine out.. rebuild is $2000 with engine in car and they do all the work, incl replacing gaskets, leads, welsh plugs etc.. $2500.

Is this cheap? Or expensive? This was the only place anyone has been able to refer me to.. Jap Engines at Cardiff..

Does your car leak oil at all or just burning though oil and the exhaust is emitting black smog?

The last thing you want to do is pull your engine and find out it was an oil leak. A compression test would help determine your engines wear.

If the engine is out then either Suzi Auto Services or SuziWorld would be able to easily beat the price you have been quoted. From memory $1400/1200 respectively. Freight is cheap, so you'd come out in front.

$2500 for a drive in/drive out rebuild is pretty good though.

I am intrigued how it is possible to remove a sump and see cracked rings attached to pistons that sit tightly against the cylinder walls unless there was evidence of rings in the sump. In the words of Pauline Hanson "Please explain?"

Cracked/broken rings will usually leave scoring on the cylinder bores, which can be seen by removing the sump.

Got a new quote today.. $1200 for a rebuild if I take the engine to them and it's stripped down.. costing me less for time and labour etc and they are in Newie.

So that looks like the winning number..
