Hi Parry,

There is room for more than one carbon bonneted MB! Good luck with your part.
Yeah, the flares are ex-Japan. A friend of the family makes trips there from time to time and was very kind in tracking them down for me. Between making the bonnet and tailgate/tray mould, and some other secrets, I was ending up with too much composite work to do.

Got a bit more of the project to show.

"I used Cold drawn seamless bar for the cage, it's heavy, but it's the real deal. 'Special' Engine will make up for the extra weight."

I dangled this carrot a while ago, and no-one bit!

The details of my engine are to follow!

This is a piston;

Ah that's better!

To be more specific, it's a JE forged piston, that fits into this block..

It's a G10T! And it's been a long time in the making - my first bit of correspondence took place on the Oct 1st 2008! And I am still working on it.

Tracking down the engine was hard enough, but finding details on it is even harder. Which has a lot to do with just how long it has taken me to get this far.

My MB is/was already powered by an N.A. G10, and I understood that the two engines were quite interchangable, until the pieces arrived and I started to put it together. For starters it's based on a G10 Mk2, I had a G10 Mk1! So numerous items would not suit the G10T (I wasn't able to get the complete engine, so was relying on the parts I had being able to fit) Fortunately after sometime I found a G10 Mk2 at a pick-a-part wreckers and was able to finalize some conclusions I had made, and get the missing parts I needed. Looks like I have everything I need now, and as you can see, a large part of the engine is complete. I've booked the car in for painting to give myself a deadline to get the body done, so the engine waits (yet again) while I prep the car. And for those following this thread, I have finished the half cage/intrusion bars and I am gathering together parts of the interior, more to follow.....

Oh, I forgot to mention the pistons. As it happens, the G10T pistons are often shagged (I knew this going in) and my engine was no exception. Hence the JE forged items!

Thanks Guys! Should have a lot more to show by the end of the year. Hopefully the MB will be painted before the end of Nov, so then I can show off the new rims, and get the engine/gearbox back in. Still got some secrets to reveal, and a couple more custom bits that I hope will impress.

JB, absolutely awsome. Great workmanship and attention to detail. When finished I want to have a look at it in person ( I believe you are in Melbourne).

Thanks Paride,

I am in Melbourne (Rosebud), and as such I have been living vicariously through this forum as you fellow Melbournites enjoy the many MB cruise days, waiting for the day my car is done and I can join you all.

You will certainly be welcome to see the car, as I am very impressed with the way 'The Holk' has come together, and look forward to checking it out in the flesh.

JB, those wheel arch flares look awesome!

Did you make them yourself?

Cheers
