Quick question...

Hi all.
I was messing about with the starter motor this afternoon. As I put it all back together and went to put it back in place, I noticed a hose sticking up that I hadn't seen beforehand. I'm not too mechanically-minded, so frankly I have no idea what it is or what to do with it!
Here are some pics. If someone could identify it and let me know where the other end should be I'd be very grateful...

It is directly under where the starter goes. And that's the dipstick centred at the bottom of the pic, to give you a reference point.

Fairly sure thats the breather hose for the gearbox.

Must concurr with young William.(interpretation for non Aspergers = I reckon Billie is on the money.)
So many delays to getting my MB back in order with 993cc & 5 speed transaxle... neighbor issue gone, donor shell up on rotisserie, new sheds on the way.... another project also..

I also concur with young William :)Therefore to answer your question the other end should just vent to the atmosphere. I also deduct from that photo tis an auto box :wink:

Actually since that went so well, I might take a few more snaps of various things dangling around in the engine bay that have me mystified... :oops:

No problem we will 'edjamakatecha' over time - we all once were in your situation (just ask Billie, between his job & the forum he has learned quickly).

I might just pop this question in here rather than making a new thread:
Because I'm clueless under the bonnet, and the old F5A is in serious need of an upgrade, I'm strongly considering just paying whatever it takes to get someone else to drop a new engine in my MB for me. I have a '87 Automatic, and taking the F5A shouldn't be difficult to do myself so that should cut down a tiny bit on labor.
So here are some questions for the MB gurus:
1. Is it easy to find someone to do something like this for me?
2. If I drop off a G13BA with auto gearbox attached, and my MB with the F5a out, roughly how much would it cost me before I could drive it out of there? (apparently this requires a fair bit of metalwork so I'm assuming it'd be a small fortune)
3. And same question for a G10A? (which I assume would be considerably cheaper...)
Again, thanks in advance for any advice. As you can probably tell I need all the help I can get! :lol: :NFI:

1. If you were swapping the standard motor for an F8B then any mechanic could do the job. Otherwise you're looking at big $$$ for a fabricator and engineer.

2. Forget about a G13BA. If you don't have the skills to take on this conversion yourself then you'd be pissing thousands up the wall.

3. Assuming you'd want to rebuild the G10A first, I'd budget for around $5-6k by the time you factor in the cost for the purchase, rebuild, conversion and engineers certificate.
