Have to Rewire Whole Car Again!

.After the Mighty Boy going up in flames and the decision to convert it to an all Electric Vehcle. One is wanering how and where to start to go about rewiring this thing?

All the dash has been ripped out since it was all melted. I might just bolt some boards in there as a custom dash but i want all the new wiring to be as simple as possible! Only the main thing needing to function for roadworthyness.

Any suggestions or ideas, look links or something . Im right out there on a limb attempting this stuf no nothing about it. I guess a good place to start would be to bolt a battery in

Actually, I think the battery would be the LAST thing you'd "bolt in"!

I agree with Brayden - I think if the wiring is really as FUBAR as you say, then I'd pull it all out - and then get myself a copy of the wiring diagram:

and make a few copies.

Then start by either highlighting all the circuits you WILL need, or highlight all the circuits you WILL NOT need.
Next would be to add all the circuits that will be specific to the operation of the drive systems.

Once you've done all that, you should be able to determine the cabling you need, and where/how it will be fitted into the car.

I reckon if you get to the point where you need to connect up a battery in 6 months, you've done really well!

I may have a complete wiring harness for an MB. I swapped one to Billie a couple of weeks back. A hatch one would work but the hatch has an external voltage regulator and the hatch alternator must be substituted and you may have to live with the 2 speed wipers. The hatch dash will bolt in easily, I have one in one of my MB's. While not original, it looks good IMO

dont put an old loom back in, its headed towards 30years old at this stage....

ez-wire do kits, with a full fuse box and all wires are labled so you know where to run them....

or look at painless wire kits as well, they are more $$$ but still easier than starting from scratch.

both are good and easy enough to get in. i have a painless one in my ICV

oh and to keep it road worthy you cant "just bolt some boards in" it wont meet "crash pad" engineering unless you plan on engineering it and even then it will be a lot of work to get it over the line...

been there done that back in 2005, and they are tighter now....

1). Dont use boards as Dasha! I prob would have done this and got caught later on.
2). No battery first even though i though.t, might need to connect things as i go along to test!
3). Link to purchasing looms, since i priced one guy at 550, 150 seems better, still im trying to do this from broke so scabbing about is the order of the day!
4). I also downloaded the wiring diagram and will print it A5 size sometime and get familiar with it.

Ive had a guy give a gearbox out of a f5b upgrade to f8b and anyone else that would otherwise throw things out and could help that would be apreciated.

mate, from the comment about starting from a battery im guessing you are starting from scratch in both knowledge and skills and with nothing in the car as well after the fire....

so with this in mind ebay and a e-z wire kit will be the go, ebay USA you should be able to get thim in the sub 200 range (ive not checked this price recently, the local hot rod shop in bris was doing them for about 280 and i remember they were cheaper on ebay).

also get onto pit-stop-book-shop in perth, they will have an auto elec book that will point you in the correct direction.

it really is a big job if you have never played with auto-elec things before

for what its worth i have done this from scratch a couple of times and ive also paid for it to be done.

doing it myself was about 800 all up, and having a pro do it was in the 3k ball park, labour time is the killer for a shop to do it.

i will be doing a full re-wire on my shorty 40 as the old wires are showing signs of +30 years of 4x4ing...
