Was wondering if anybody was able to explain why I need to drive the mightyboy like a manual but its a auto.
I have looked through the hoses they all seem OK.
I have checked the oil it isn't low.
I drove around 20kms yesterday at constant speed of 80kms to give the boy a run after 4years of not running and ran like a dream engine wise few funny noises whilst getting to 80kms but ran nicley.
Noticed thismorning that there seems to be small amount of oil under car from around the dipstick area of gearbox is there a way of stopping this?

Can you still get gasket kits for the auto's and if so where from as I would like to have a set just in case something goes wrong with this box and I need to rebuild another.

Does anbody have an auto they don't need or want Sydney area.....F5A

There could be a number of reasons the auto isn't shifting properly.

a) Damaged/broken/missing electronic control unit (under driver's seat)
b) Missing/broken vacuum switch
c) Missing/broken speed sensor (behind speedo)
d) Malfunctioning shift solenoid

Yes you should still be able to buy rebuild kits for the auto, but it is a pretty massive job to overhaul one of these. Personally I'd have the job done professionally. Be warned though, even a rebuild won't guarantee that it will shift automatically if one of the things in the list above is the problem.

Thanks Brayden.

Do you know of anybody that does the boxes?

I have a manual subframe and manual box would it be easier to convert and what would be involved. I have a complete MB with ending and box but engine has blown head gasket. Still runs and drives but only on 2 cyl.

Its a pitty I don't have another Auto MB car to try some of the parts you have mentioned.

Any auto gearbox specialist should be able to do a rebuild for you. Maybe try SuziSport in Seven Hills for a recommendation?

If you want to do a manual conversion then besides the subframe you need the pedal box, shifter linkages and support rod, flywheel, clutch, and clutch cable. If you have another MB to pull all the bits from then the conversion can be done in a day.
